About · Pasadena Clinical Group

A practice built around couples — that's the whole story.

We're a couples-only outpatient psychotherapy practice in Pasadena, serving the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, the greater LA metro, and Orange County. The team works exclusively with couples. That focus is the practice's reason for being, not a sub-specialty.

Why couples-only

Generalists are good for many things. Couples therapy is not one of them.

The data on couples therapy outcomes shows two reliable predictors of success: whether the therapist is trained in a specific evidence-based couples model (Gottman, EFT, IBCT, PACT, or discernment), and whether the therapist works with couples often enough to recognize the patterns in the room. A clinician who sees one couple a week alongside thirty individual clients is not the same as a clinician who sees thirty couples a week.

That's the choice we made when we founded the practice. The whole team — every clinician, every supervisor — works with couples. We do not blend individual and couples work for the same client; if one of you needs additional individual support, we'll refer you to a clinician we trust outside the practice.

It's a narrower scope. It's also why what happens in the room actually moves things.

What this means in practice

  • Every clinician trained in at least two of the five core modalities (Gottman, EFT, IBCT, Discernment, PACT).
  • Caseloads weighted toward couples — pattern recognition compounds.
  • Internal consult on cases that need a second set of eyes.
  • Continuing education exclusively in couples-and-relationship work.
Multilingual care

Eight languages, one practice.

Los Angeles is one of the most linguistically rich cities in the world. The pretense that "therapy in your second language" is the same as therapy in your first language is one of the small dishonesties of how mental health gets delivered here. We don't want to be part of that.

Sessions can be conducted in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Italian, Arabic, or Armenian. When you reach out, tell us which language you'd like the work done in and we'll match you with a clinician fluent in that language — not "willing to try."

LGBTQ+ affirmative

Affirmative is the floor, not the ceiling.

Queer, trans, non-monogamous, and non-traditional couples are seen here without translation. Gender identity and relationship structure aren't the work — the work is the same as it is for any couple. Affirmative care is the floor. The clinical work is what we're actually here to do.

Accessibility & access

Things we do so the practice is reachable.

  • Insurance: we accept all major Southern California carriers (Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Aetna, Cigna, Magellan, L.A. Care, MHN, Beacon, TriWest/VA). Out-of-network superbills available. More on insurance →
  • Sliding scale: case-by-case for couples who need it. We talk about it openly.
  • Telehealth: seven days a week, on a HIPAA-compliant platform. Telehealth agreement →
  • Evening & weekend sessions: because most couples can't both leave work at 3pm.
  • Wheelchair-accessible office: the Pasadena office is on the sixth floor of a fully ADA-compliant building.
Doctoral practicum

We train the next cohort.

The practice runs a doctoral practicum for PsyD and PhD students in clinical psychology, with structured supervision in couples-specific modalities. Apply for the practicum →
