Why Pasadena
Pasadena sits at the intersection of two specialty-care realities that shape couples therapy here: a strong professional and academic community (Caltech, JPL, ArtCenter, Fuller Theological Seminary) with high demand for skilled clinical care, and proximity to the broader LA metro that makes commute decisions central to whether couples can actually sustain weekly sessions.
Most of the couples who come to our Pasadena office are within a 20-minute drive — Pasadena, Altadena, San Marino, South Pasadena, Eagle Rock, La Cañada Flintridge, Sierra Madre. For couples in the broader LA region (Glendale, Burbank, Highland Park, Downtown, the Eastside, the Westside) we generally recommend telehealth: weekly traffic between West LA and Pasadena turns into a barrier most couples can't sustain.
What kinds of couples come here
Our Pasadena practice serves a broad cross-section of LA couples — long-married couples in their 50s and 60s navigating the empty nest, newly-engaged couples doing premarital work before the wedding, queer and trans couples wanting affirmative care without asterisks, couples in their 30s-40s working through affair recovery or financial conflict, and bilingual Spanish-speaking couples needing care in their first language.
Most of our work is in English. We also have clinicians who work in Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Hindi, Italian, Arabic, and Armenian — confirm availability when you call.
Conditions we treat in our Pasadena office
Every clinician at the practice works exclusively with couples. The full list of conditions is on our conditions page; the most-common presenting issues we see in Pasadena are:
- Communication breakdown — the same fight, repeated
- Infidelity & affair recovery — Gottman Trust Revival
- Mismatched libido and intimacy concerns — AASECT-informed
- Premarital counseling — before the wedding makes it harder
- On the brink / discernment — when you're not sure yet
- ADHD in the relationship
- Blended-family conflict
Insurance and self-pay
We accept Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Aetna, Cigna, L.A. Care, Magellan, MHN, and several others. Confirm your specific plan when you call. For self-pay, fees and a small number of sliding-scale slots are described on our insurance page.
In-person vs. telehealth from Pasadena
Most of our Pasadena-based couples mix the two. We often recommend the first session in person if you can — the assessment goes more smoothly, and it tends to set the alliance in a useful way. From there, weekly telehealth often fits better with the realities of life in LA. For affair-recovery work, blended-family conjoint sessions, or specific ritual-of-reconnection work, we may suggest in-person on key sessions.
What we don't recommend: doing telehealth from two different rooms in the same house. Couples therapy is about the relationship between you, which means being physically together for sessions. Sit on the same couch. We work with what we can see.
How to start
Call (626) 354-6440 or fill out the contact form. We typically respond the same business day with a few session times that fit both your schedules. The first session is a 60-minute fit conversation; if we don't think we're the right clinic for you, we'll refer you out to colleagues we trust.
